I’ve got a fever

The local store made me an offer I couldn’t refuse, and so now I have officially contracted black rifle disease. As I understand it, there is no cure.

It's a veritable arsenal!

Fortunately there is a wealth of information online, especially on the forums.

On the other hand, I don’t imagine that I’ll finish this project for another few months, since I have barely begun to gather the pieces.  I certainly won’t have it done before the Appleseed shoot in mid-April.  I guess I’ll have to wait for the next one.  That does give me a bit of time to make up my mind on the specifics of my build; after all, this is a big step.  If I choose poorly, I could end up using my fancy smoke pole to bash in zombie heads instead of shooting them from a safe distance away.

My brother asked me the other day why I needed a gun.  I didn’t have a snappy-yet-relevant comeback for him at the time, but I suppose I’m just doing my part to lower the crime rate.

Make it stop!

I’m really getting sick of all the census commercials on TV and the radio.  Last night I saw two different commercials back to back, and both admonished me to be sure to fill out the short form lest my community not “get its fair share of funding,” and to make sure that we have enough hospitals, buses, and schools.

If the government hadn’t gotten involved in that stuff in the first place, and a hospital was having problems with overcrowding, don’t you think they’d expand to serve their customer base?  Or a school would build more rooms and hire more teachers if they didn’t have enough?

And even setting that aside, that was our money to begin with!  Why should we have to beg the government to give us our own money back?

I don’t have any problems with the census itself; it’s one of the few things the federal government is explicitly required by the constitution to do.  I object to the government attempting to bribe me with my own money, and its assumption that all anyone wants from the government is what it can give us.

I’d be happier if it just left me the hell alone.
